On 17 June 1864, Ira Eldredge and David Spencer departed from Elkhorn Nebraska with a company of 186 other individuals to travel across the plains to Salt Lake City, Utah. In the company was Bryan Ward Nowlin 5 and his sister Amanda Thomas Nowlin, along with Mary Suzanna Cummings Nowlin. There were 76 wagons in the party which arrive 19-22 September 1847. Also on the journey was Benjamin Franklin Cummings and his brother Alva.
